Wedding Cake

I thought this would be fun to share. We will be getting our wedding cake from Dorothy Ann Bakery (http://www.dorothyannbakery.com/) for our reception. We know the owners, we know the employees, we know the food, and quite simply, we love it.

That said, there are surprising number of things to decide when it comes to building the cake of your dreams. Things like, what kind of wedding topper do you want? What kind of cake do you want (I might talk Amber into Marble ;-))? Do you want a grooms cake?  How much cake is everyone going to want to eat? How many people are there going to be? Do you want to save the top of the cake in the freezer for your first anniversary?

All these things need to be answered. Thankfully, Joan and Steve (the owners) know that there are a lot of questions to be answered, and they want to do everything they can to help. They even have these wedding cake shows where you can go, see a bunch of the latest cake designs, and just talk with them about what it is your heart desires in a cake. I’m going to post the times for their wedding cake show, just so you have them (and so I don’t lose them):

  • Thursday, Jan. 10th, 2008 5:00pm to 8:00pm
  • Friday, Jan. 11th, 2008 1pm to 5:00pm
  • Saturday, Jan. 12th, 2008 10:00am to 2:00pm
  • Saturday, Jan. 26th, 2008 10:00am to 2:00pm
  • Sunday, Jan. 27th, 2008 10:00am to 2:00pm
  • Monday, Jan. 28th, 2008 5:00pm to 8:00pm

It even says they’ll have samples! Yay for samples!

In other news, if you think we should style our cake a certain way (for example, Super Mario Brothers, Metroid, Zelda, Super Smash Brothers, Wii, Computerish, Legoish, or any other fun way) let us know in the comments.

Have either of you ever watched Ace of Cakes on Food network? This guy and his crew are fantastic with their cake design.. they pretty much take any wacky and crazy idea and make it into an edible masterpiece. They are based way out on the east coast, so I’m not saying you should change providers or anything… it just made me think of your comments for the wacky themes you have mentioned.

I think your cake should be shaped like a jolly rancher.

Our cake won’t be square! (Well it might be but no).

I’m thinking more like that super mario cake… that was a pretty cool cake.

A jolly rancher is rectangular you nitwit.
